Presumably that is the same as your 'data whistle'. Yes, I did that and could hear what I call 'modem noises'. Try plugging a bog-standard handset into the filter which you're trying to connect your modem into - see if you can hear a dialtone - and then dial the number for the modem bank - see if you hear a data whistle. I have used my phone to dial the connection numbers using the same wiring circuit which I use to connect to the modem, and when I do I hear 'modem noises'.ĭoes anybody reading this have a good understanding of dial up modems and can suggest anything? My line carries broadband but I have tried and correctly used two different ADSL filters. I have tried setting and using my area code in 'my location'. I have tried phone numbers and logins for three different dial up ISPs and all show the same result. The connection eventually fails with an error such as 678. Each beep is about a second long and they are about 2 seconds apart. I do not hear anything like 'modem noises'. I then hear what sounds like the phone number being dialled. Whichever settings I try, on 7 or XP using the relevant driver, this is the 'best' result when I try to start a dial up connection:
I was surprised by that, and it suggests I am generally misunderstanding how to use dial up modems. I briefly tried using my stepmum's laptop and internal modem yesterday at her home, but it seemed I had the same problem there.
My modem is a Micronet SP3008UB v4 USB modem. I have the same trouble on my pc whether it is running Windows XP or 7. I am having problems using a dial up modem.
I posted a related topic elsewhere a few days ago, but I am still having problems so thought I would post here.
